As It Is In Heaven – Lance's Review of Word of Mouth Film Sensation

As It Is In Heaven Page html

Language – Swedish with English subtitles

As It Is In Heaven is a film that causes you to think or rethink your understanding of real community.

I feel it has messages through it at different levels and will effect the viewer differently, depending on the viewers own perspectives and frame of mind.

It weaves in to the tapestry of the message the powerful effect of music, both in constructive and deconstructive ways. Prejudice against certain types of music can affect the persecuted in very deep ways and sometime for the rest of their lives.

Yet, in the case of this film, what appears a debilitating illness for the lead role and indeed the apparent end to a brilliant career, in fact directs him to a path to his birth village and a journey of self- discovery. In fact he unknowingly draws those he meets in the village into a communal confronting of individal issues which when worked through, with the help of others, contributes to the health and fulfillment of the whole group.

Viewed with spiritual eyes there may be many allegorical scenes that will perhaps challenge your perceptions or, alternatively, maybe endorse your thoughts.

Below are some trailers, interviews and the main song as well as links to materials discussing the social implications that may be drawn from the film.

The Movie Show Online interviewed Director Kay POLLACK about his latest film, AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. (Video below)

After an 18 year absence from filmmaking, Writer/Director Kay POLLACK returns to the helm with one of Sweden's biggest box-office hits of recent times. Set in the remote north of Sweden, As it is in Heaven is a mature and complex drama about redemption and the healing power of music.

Daniel Daréus, an internationally renowned conductor, after suffering a heart attack retreats to the Swedish village of his troubled youth. However, even in the remote North, anonymity escapes him. Word of Daniel's arrival quickly spreads and his opinion of the local church choir is sought. Daniel is soon enticed into coaching the vocalist and reluctantly becomes entangled in their complicated lives. But with emotional involvement comes great reward, as Daniel fulfils his life-long dream of creating music that changes lives.
